The over or under functioning of the Thyroid gland, which produces Thyroid hormones, directly manages the metabolism rate in the body. While Hyperthyroidism leads to an excessive weight loss or malnutrition, Hypothyroidism leads to excessive weight gain or obesity, which is yet another cause for a range of diseases. The neck-to-chin tuck further functions beautifully to remove the obstacles in regulating the gland to secrete healthy level of hormones for a smoother functioning in the body.

Plow Pose or Halasana

Plow Pose or Halasana

A deeper variation of Shoulder stand, Plow Pose asks the practitioner to take the legs from the shoulder stand and bend them down, all the way to the floor, behind the head. Imitating the form of a plow, the pose presses and stimulates the Thyroid gland furthermore, and helps in creating harmony in the body. Plow pose and Shoulder stand are carried out in conjunction with the flowing motion.

Legs Up the Wall or Viparita Karani Asana

Legs Up the Wall or Viparita Karani

A simple, relaxing, and therapeutic posture, Legs up the wall pose can be practiced even while watching Television. Yet again, a semi-inverted pose, this allows the flow of the blood back to the upper extremities and passively restores balance in the body. An added benefit of performing this pose is stress relief, which is a direct or indirect contributor to an improper functionality of the gland in question.

Fish Pose or Matsyasana

 Fish Pose or Matsyasana

Fish pose imitates how a fish looks by placing the top of the head on the floor behind the practitioner and giving the neck a good stretch. This stretch heals and soothes the gland actively and gives a much-required relief to the patient. Further, it helps in alleviating depression and mood swings, which is also a mal-effect of this disease.

Camel Pose or Ustrasana

Camel Pose (Ustrasana)

Another pose in the back bending series, Ustrasana requires the practitioner to drop his or her head in a backward motion. As mentioned earlier in Matsyasana, the action of dropping the neck behind stretches it and activates the gland.

Bridge pose or Setu Bandhasana

Bridge Pose (Setu-Bandhasana)

The Bridge Pose or Setu Bandhasana is usually used as a back strengthener or a pain removal posture, but as we lift the pelvis up, the chin automatically gets pressed against the chest, thereby automatically activating the Thyroid Gland and helping in its smooth functioning.

Cobra Pose or Bhujangasana

Cow Face Pose (Gomukhasana)

The practitioner is required to mimic a snake by lifting the torso up in the air and taking the gaze up the ceiling. The lifting motion of the neck works on the dormant or an overactive Thyroid gland and helps the practitioner overcome the repercussions of this disease.
